Dublin Zoo Family Trip

At this historic zoo, you will encounter world-class animal habitats that are home to wildlife brought in from all over the world. At Dublin Zoo, you’ll be able to see animals from the African savanna, including giraffes, southern white rhinos, and zebras. You can see a pack of wolves in their newly designed habitat, wandering among the trees or resting on a rock – an incredible sight to witness. With over 400 to 500 animals, I haven’t listed them all, but there are many more to explore.

If you’re looking for exciting things to do in the city, a (visit to Dublin Zoo) is a must! Make sure to include it in your itinerary for a memorable experience.

Zebra – African Savannah  

Pause to marvel at the tallest giraffes in the African Savannah, and alongside the zebras, you’ll also see other fascinating animals, such as the massive ostrich and the southern white rhino. There are even more animals to discover as you explore this section.

Kaziranga Forest Trail  

Visitors to Dublin Zoo can also witness herds of elephants roaming around. You might even catch them taking a bath in the water, especially enjoying the specially created mud baths designed for their fun. Watching the elephants splash and shake the branches of trees is quite a delightful sight.

Gorilla Rainforest  

The Gorilla Rainforest habitat at Dublin Zoo has been specially designed with the natural behavior of gorillas in mind. The habitat mimics the wild environment with dense trees, providing them with private moments and calm spaces. The enclosure is filled with plenty of greenery to offer them peace and comfort. If you’re lucky, you might witness some extraordinary moments, like gorillas climbing high rocks, jumping between trees, or simply enjoying their surroundings. The best time to see them is in the morning when they’re most active—having breakfast, moving around, and playing.

Dublin Zoo has a vast range of animals, and while it would be impossible to cover them all in detail here, I’ve shared what stood out from my experience.

You can also visit the penguins or catch the Sea Lion Cove during feeding time. Sea Lion Cove is one of Dublin Zoo’s newest habitats, modeled after California’s coastal colonies. Watching the sea lions in action is a memorable experience, especially during their feeding sessions!

An exciting feature of Dublin Zoo is their family farm, which showcases the charming aspects of Ireland’s small and vibrant farms. Visitors can enter the farm and interact with the animals, including cows, Irish sheep, pigs, goats, ducks, chickens, rabbits, and many more. The most thrilling part is a special model of a dairy cow, where visitors can try their hand at milking—a fun and interactive experience for all ages!
